On 10th February 2024 the National Law University Jodhpur (NLUJ) and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India Special Training Programme on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies for attorneys from the Office of the Attorney General of Nepal commenced in the NLU Jodhpur Auditorium. This is the 23rd edition of this flagship program of NLUJ and ITEC. It is for the fourth time that the cohort from the OAG Nepal has participated in this programme. The participants of this programme are 30 attorneys of mid-career level and senior level are the participants. Three observers-Mr. Gopal Prasad Rijal, Deputy Attorney General, OAG Nepal, Mr. Narayan Wasti, Chief Attorney, Koshi Province and Mr. Thekendra Raj Joshi, Chief Attorney, Sudurpashchim Province are also participating in the programme.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Harpreet Kaur. Shri Gaurav Agarwal, IAS, District Magistrate and Collector, Jodhpur graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the programme. The distinguished guests on the dais were Mr. Gopal Prasad Rijal, Deputy Attorney General, OAG Nepal, Dr. Sunita Pankaj, RAS, Registrar, NLUJ.
The special programme focusses on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, it covers law, policy and procedure and multi-dimensional approach to artificial intelligence. It includes sessions by legal luminaries and renowned experts and interactive sessions for critical understanding of participants. The pedagogy of lectures is based on case studies and discussion.
The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Harpreet Kaur who emphasised the significance of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in legal profession. She mentioned NLU Jodhpur’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary high quality and practical learning and international collaborations in her address through this flagship programme. Prof. Kaur ensured that the resource persons of this programme are subject matter experts. Mr. Gaurav Agarwal, IAS, District Magistrate and Collector, delivered the Keynote Address, shedding light on the intersection of technology and policy in contemporary governance. He quoted his own experience sharing that AI has come a long way and has high potential in bringing productivity and synchronisation in policy and practice. Mr. Gopal Prasad Rijal, Deputy Attorney General, Office of the Attorney General, Nepal, addressed the gathering and said that the evolving role of AI in legal frameworks and governance is important for the practitioners to understand and that the participants must gather knowledge through this programme for their future use. Dr. Sunita Pankaj, RAS, Registrar of National Law University Jodhpur, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for their presence and contributions. She ensured that the program will offer good learning experience to the participants.
In the coming days the cohort will visit High Court Rajasthan and the Surpura village, AIIMS, Jodhpur, Mehrangarh fort and Jaswant Thada to experience the culture and heritage of Royal Rajasthan
