25thNLUJ- ITEC Two-week Special Training Programme on Competition Law

The National Law University Jodhpur (NLUJ), in collaboration with the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, inaugurated the 25th Special Training Programme on Competition Law on 8 March 2026, coinciding with the observance of International Women's Day. The two-week capacity-building programme has brought together officials and professionals from 17 ITEC partnering countries, reflecting the growing global engagement of NLUJ in advancing knowledge and dialogue on law and related areas.

The inaugural session was graced by Shri. Dhanendra Kumar, IAS (Retd.), Former Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India, who delivered the Special Address. In his remarks, Mr. Kumar appreciated the academic initiatives undertaken under the leadership of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur and commended the University for organizing impactful international capacity-building programmes in the field of law.

Delivering the Presidential Address, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur highlighted that the programme holds special significance as the University celebrates its Silver Jubilee year, while this edition marks the 25th NLUJ-ITEC programme hosted by NLUJ. She emphasised the growing importance of competition law in promoting fair markets, consumer welfare and economic development. She also delivered a lecture on “Competition Law and Developmental Governance: Market Efficiency, Consumer Welfare and Public Interest in Developing Countries.”

The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sunita Pankaj, RAS, Registrar, who warmly welcomed the international delegates and dignitaries.

Over the course of the two-week programme, participants will engage with leading scholars and practitioners in the field of competition law. The programme features lectures and discussions by eminent resource persons including Mr. Augustine Peter, Former Member, Competition Commission of India and Dr. Geeta Gouri, Former Member, Competition Commission of India.

The programme reflects the University’s continued commitment to international academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building in the field of competition law, while strengthening India’s engagement with partner nations through the ITEC initiative.
