Legal Aid & Awareness Committee

Having been conceived as the Center for Legal Aid and Social Services (CLASS), the Legal Aid & Awareness Committee ("LAAC") was started by the faculty and students of National Law University, Jodhpur with the mandate of imparting legal awareness and providing legal aid under the Patronage of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor and the able guidance of Prof. I. P. Massey (Dean, Faculty of Law). The Center initially focused on prisons across Jodhpur in collaboration with CHRI Initiative for under-trial prisoners. Gradually, the LAAC has undertaken initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of the socially and economically less privileged by helping them attain their rights under social beneficial legislations. The Committee also aims at establishing linkages with established lawyers across the State of Rajasthan so as to expand the scope of legal aid services and consultancy and has been periodically providing legal assistance for the same.

The Committee has been working on various research projects to evaluate the standard of legal awareness and implementation of welfare legislations while also working to secure the rights of women. Forwarding the smart village initiative of the Government of India, the LAAC has adopted a village, Surpura, and is extensively working towards developing the basic infrastructure and public facilities in the village.
