REPORT FOR THE ONLINE LECTURE

In recent times, the Israel-Gaza conflict has been making headlines around the world. As students of law, it is important for us to stay informed about current events and the role of International Humanitarian Law in such situations. Simultaneously, need has also been felt to gain knowledge about the considerations that states take into account while taking actions during such emergencies in international relations.

India, as a nation, has historically maintained a balanced and cautious approach when it comes to international conflicts. The Indian government has consistently emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Gaza conflict, urging both parties to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue. However, there were considerable confusion in the Indian policy space with regards to modus operandi that India should adopt in response to this crisis. Therefore, the Centre for Policy

Research in International Law thought it fit to organise a lecture on the issue of “Israel - Palestine and International law” for helping the National Law University student community in gaining interdisciplinary understanding about the ongoing conflict. The lecture was given by the Ambassador KP Fabian. Lecture was held online on 20 March, 2024.

Speaker Profile- Ambassador KP Fabian, 68, served in the Indian Foreign Service from 1964 to 2000. His last posting was in Rome, as Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to UN Organizations including FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), WFP (World Food Programme), and IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development).
