The panel discussion on “gender and sexual violence in armed conflict” was organized by the Centre for Policy and Research in International Law and the Centre for Gender Studieson March 5th, 2024. The discussion aimed to address the gravity of gender-based and sexual violence in armed conflicts, which often goes overlooked in discussions on conflict resolution and post-war reconstruction.
Gender-based and sexual violence in armed conflict inflict immediate physical and psychological harm and perpetuate trauma and societal destabilization long after hostilities cease.The discussion aimed to probe the root causes and impacts of gender-based violence, integrating gender perspectives into humanitarian and peacebuilding efforts.

Speakers:
1. Ms. Sweta Singh, Associate Professor of International Relations, discussed practical concerns on "Women, Peace, and Security."
2. Ms. Kalyani Jayasekera, a legal expert, focused on the "Protection of women under the IHL framework."
Attendees included Ms. Rudra Chandra and Ms. Varsha Singh, both assistant professors. Ms. Varsha Singh provided insights on implementing the International Humanitarian Framework for protecting women during ongoing armed conflicts globally.The panel discussion was well-received by university students, marking it a success.
