National Law University Jodhpur (NLUJ) and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Special Training Programme begins

On 19th February 2024 the National Law University Jodhpur (NLUJ) and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India Special Training Programme on Criminal Law and Forensic Sciences for attorneys from the Office of the Attorney General of Nepalcommenced in the NLU Jodhpur Auditorium. This programme was presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Harpreet Kaur. Hon’ble Justice Ravindra Bhat, retired Judge, Supreme Court of India graced the occasion as chief guest of the programme and Mr. M.L. Kumawat, former Vice Chancellor of Sardar Patel Police University, Jodhpur. The distinguished guests on the dais were Prof. B. B. Pande, former Professor of Law, University of Delhi and Hon’ble Attorney General of Nepal, Dr. Dina Mani Pokharel. Other dignitaries present were Mr. Bishwo Raj Koirala, Deputy Attorney General of Nepal, Dr.Shaloo Malik, Deputy Director, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Jodhpur and Mr. Ankit Singhal, Registrar, NLUJ.
So far, NLUJ have organised 21 NLUJ ITEC programmes from participants from ITEC partnering countries. This is the third cohort from Nepal to be equipped with this special training. This special programme focusses on Criminal Law and Forensic Science, covers law, policy and procedure and multi-dimensional approach to forensic science. It includes sessions by legal luminaries and renowned experts and interactive sessions for critical understanding of participants. The pedagogy of lectures is based on case studies and discussion. Study visits to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Jodhpur and local visits to experience the culture and heritage of Royal Rajasthan are significant features of this programme. The participants of this programme are 30 attorneys of mid-career level and senior level are the participants.
The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Harpreet Kaur who explained to the participants that the programme will cover important aspects of criminal law and forensic sciences. She is of the view that such programmes foster friendship between both nations and expands the horizon of learning and knowledge sharing. The inaugural session was covered by Justice Ravindra Bhat who emphasised on the significance of continuous skills development and upgrades within the judicial agencies and academic institutions. Dr. M.L Kumawat covered the interplay between law and forensic sciences. Dr.Shaloo Malik covered the toxicology- dealing with analysis of poisons from biological tissues.
In the coming days, this cohort will visit Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Jodhpur and Arid Forest Research Institute Jodhpur. Lectures from legal and forensic experts will be conducted in the upcoming days.
NLUJ will host dinner on the first day of the programme for the Attorney General and the cohort.
