THE SIXTEENTH CONVOCATION OF THE NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY

The sixteenth convocation of the National Law University, Jodhpur was held on 10th February 2024 at the University Campus. Hon’ble Vice President of India Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar  graced the occasion as Chief Guest through his online presence. In the convocation 111 degrees were conferred on the undergraduate class, 57 degrees on the post graduate class and 7 Ph.D. degrees were conferred on the qualifying candidates. In addition to this 22 gold medals under various categories were awarded to the candidates whose performance was found outstanding.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur presented the annual report of the University to the august gathering. Prof. Kaur mentioned the achievements of the graduating class in the year 2023 by highlighting the laudable achievements of the students in mootcourt competition and securing placements at the reputed national and international law firms. In her speech, Prof. Kaur mentioned about the number of significant MoUs signed with prestigious national and international organisations, achievements of Centres established at National Law University, Jodhpur and research work conducted by the faculty members. Prof. Kaur emphasized on her aim of development and internationalisation of the University through collaborative approach and teamwork.

The Chief Guest of the Convocation, Hon’ble Vice President of India Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar  virtually addressed the graduating batch and the august gathering. His Excellency explained the significance of law field to the graduating batch and emphasized on fulfilling their responsibility in the direction of highest interest of the citizens and development of the Nation. In his speech, his Excellency said that learning is a life long process and that the students must unleash their potential and explore their talent through initiatives available at their disposal and help in realizing the dreams and aspirations of the Nation. His Excellency also mentioned that the organisations of repute such as World Bank and IMF are impressed by the talent of young generation in India and that the law graduates must explore the opportunities in law field to tap into such organisations.

The Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge Supreme Court of India congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Harpreet Kaur, faculty members and the students. In his speech, the Lordship highlighted various instances of artificial intelligence that are threatening the employment opportunities of many and thus the role of Law is to safeguard citizens under these conditions. The Lordship quoted Swami Vivekananda “Fill the brain with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you and out of that will come Great Work.”
The Registrar Incharge, Mr. AnkitSinghal coordinated the Convocation proceedings and led the procession. Dr. Rashmi Mathur anchored the programme.
