CONSTITUTIONAL LAW SOCIETY

The Constitutional Law Society was founded in the year 2018 to encourage discussion and debate in the subject of Constitutional Law. The Society undertakes several activities in the form of special lectures, competitions and general student discussions that augment and further the understanding of the students in the field of Constitutional Law.

Professor Philipp Dann: The lecture focussed on the topic ‘The Role of the Global South in Comparative Constitutional Studies’. Prof. Dann gave detailed insight on liberal constitutionalism and discussed how the constitution making in the Global South has been influenced by the colonial legacies of these nations. The lecture was held on 9 June, 2022.

Professor Samuel Moyn: The lecture held on 18 July, 2022 focused on the topic “Rights and Duties between the Past and the Present”, and discoursed on the interrelation and interplay between the concepts of rights and duties and how this relationship has evolved over the decades.

Professor Daniel M. Brinks: A lecture cum discussion was held by Professor Daniel M. Brinks pertaining to his upcoming book, “Limits of Judicialization” on August 3, 2022. The discussion focused on how judicialization of politics needs to be limited in order to be effective and what adverse impacts can over-judicialization have.

Professor Kanika Gauba: A lecture was delivered by Professor Kanika Gauba on the topic “Midnight's Constitution- Discussing the history of framing India's Constitution”, on August 17, 2022. The lecture progressed by looking at the partition from the point of view of exercise of constituent power by the people and how the prevailing sociological circumstances associated with constitution-making in India cannot be eliminated from India’s constitutional history.
