Co-Curricular Achievements

The Legal Aid & Awareness Committee (LAAC) invited the children of Suprura to participate in an inspiring and edifying session which aimed at promoting education and awareness about the life of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. During the event, the committee presented a small documentary showcasing Dr BR Ambedkar's remarkable life and his contributions towards the upliftment of marginalized communities in India. The children were captivated by the content and drew inspiration from the struggles and lessons of this great leader.

  • Training under "Designing Innovative Solutions and Holistic Access to Justice (DISHA)"

The DISHA Scheme, under Department of Justice, endeavors to consolidate various components of Access to Justice currently undertaken, with the goal of addressing gaps in justice delivery. The Pan India Action Plan, a component of DISHA, outlines Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness programs designed to adopt a multi-stakeholder, progressive, and transformative approach.
The One-Day Workshop on Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness was organised on October 9, 2023 under the aegis of Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India by National Law University, Jodhpur in association with Centre for Environmental Law, Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), National Law School of India University (NLSIU). The workshop was graced by esteemed speakers such as Adv. Gopal Sandhu, Mr. Vikas Gehlot, Prof. Sairam Bhat and Dr. Deendayal Purohit who shared their valuable insights on several aspects of pro-bono legal aid with real life examples to make the session engaging. Prof. Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law & Co-ordinator, CEERA, NLSIU emphasised on the fact that Legal aid must be preventive in nature and not remedial. The workshop aimed at highlighting the issues faced by marginalised society while accessing legal aid and access to legal education. The workshop was a huge success as 175 attendees were present in the workshop.

  • INFORMATIVE SESSION ON ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ABUSE

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has been implementing the Central Sector Scheme for Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse since 1985-86 with the objectives of creating awareness and educate people about the ill-effects of alcoholism and substance abuse and for providing the whole range of community-based services for indemnification, motivation, counselling, de-addiction, after care and rehabilitation for whole person Recovery (WPR) of addicts. In accordance with the directives issued by the Juvenile Justice Committee, Rajasthan High Court, and Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur, Justice Vijay Vishnoi, a distinguished Judge at the Rajasthan High Court, presided over a specialized event on the 31st of October 2023 at the Town Hall of Rajasthan Sangeet NatyaAcademy. LAAC presented an informative session on the topic "Alcoholism and Substance Abuse" during the event.

  • PROJECT SAAHAS: EMPOWERING TRANSGENDER PERSONS THROUGH LEGAL LITERACY & SERVICES

The Legal Aid & Awareness Committee [“LAAC”], NLU Jodhpur collaborated with Prasar Bharati's Akashvani - All India Radio, Jodhpur to record an episode aimed at disseminating awareness about transgender persons and the structural and emotional barriers that hinder their progress. This segment aired on 20th October 2023, on All India Radio’s Channel: Surya Nagri Akashvani Jodhpur [531 AM Rajasthan]. The radio-segment was the beginning of the first leg of our Project Saahas: Empowering Transgender Persons Through Legal Literacy & Services.

  • NUKKAD NATAK ON CHUNAV JAGRUKTA

On October 15, 2023, the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee organized a Nukkad Natak (street play) in the rural area of Mathania, located approximately 30 kilometers away from the University campus. The primary objective of this initiative was to promote awareness and educate the local community about their voting rights, emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections in Rajasthan without external influence and the distribution of freebies. The Nukkad Natak staged in Mathania resonated profoundly with the local community, drawing an enthusiastic audience of approximately 70 to 80 individuals from the village and its neighboring areas. This notable turnout underscored the efficacy of the initiative, affirming its ability to effectively connect with the intended audience.

  • CHUNAV JAGRUKTA (VOTING AWARENESS) PODCAST

Legal Aid and Awareness Committee recorded a podcast with Aaksahvani, Jodhpur, to be aired on 17th November. The podcast was in furtherance of the initiative of ChunnavJagrukta, under which the members of the committee generate awareness among the local community about the importance of voting in elections. The Podcast was styled as a conversation between a mother and daughter, and was titled as ‘Mera Phela vote’. The script was written in a way as to include all the influences that affect the voting rights and providing a pathway to choose ideal vote.
