Atul Sharma, specializes in the areas of WTO laws, trade policy, export controls, customs classification & valuation and Indian regulatory laws such as legal metrology, food safety, telecom and electricity laws, etc. He has also handled cases relating to foreign exchange management and competition laws.
Atul successfully acted as a co-counsel for Government of Taiwan in India — Anti-Dumping Duties on USB Flash Drives from the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu and for Government of India in US “ Definitive Countervailing Duties on Certain Hot Rolled Carbon Steel Flat Products from India (DS436) and Turkey ” Safeguard zmeasures on imports of cotton yarn (other than sewing thread) (DS428) before the WTO. He also advised government of India through its exports promotion council on rules negotiations at the WTO. Atul also acted for MOFCOM, People's Republic of China in multiple transitional product-specific safeguards proceedings initiated by India.
Atul has represented multinational companies in defending classification and obtaining lower rate of import duty before the customs authorities in India and has advised them on export control laws in India. Atul holds a Master's degree in Law from New York University School of Law and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Law with honors in International Trade and Investment from National Law University, Jodhpur. He was awarded Vice Chancellors Gold Medal for the year 2006 for his overall performance during the course. He currently holds the position of Managing Director, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, Sarl. |
